Самый “нейтральный” глагол со значением “красть” — to steal.
He stole his grandmother’s precious Bible and sold it to buy himself a new suit.
A pickpocket stole Andrew’s watch.
Кража — stealth (устар.), но сейчас употребляется theft.
to rob — украсть что-то у человека или из какого-то места, используя угрозы или силу; обокрасть, обворовать:
They robbed the local bank and drove off in a white car.
They robbed him in a street wuth a knife. They stole his watch and wallet.
“Кража” такого рода будет называться a robbery.
to mug — напасть на человека в публичном месте и украсть у него что-то:
A woman of 85 was mugged in the street.
to burgle — обворовывать квартиры, офисы, банки и т.п:
We got back from holiday to find we’d been burgled.
Воры такого типа называются burglars.
A burglar broke into the house and stole his TV.
to shoplift — красть в магазине:
Security guards caught an elderly man shoplifting in the department store this afternoon.
There are photographs of some shoplifters next to the door in our local supermarket.
Воровство в магазине называется shoplifting.
to break into — врываться в чьи-то владения:
The thieves had managed to break into the car and take the stereo.
Hackers broke into the bank.
Слово a thief часто встречается во всяких учебниках для начинающих изучать английский, потому что, как и слова leaf, knife, wife и другие, слово thief образует множественное число заменяя конечную f на ves.
to nick or to pinchразговорные британские слова — стырить, стащить, используются в шутливой манере:
Someone’s nicked my pen!
I pinched this flowers from a park.
