- To cry — самые частый глагол со значением “плакать”. Если же мы хотим передать больше оттенков, то мы используем to sob, to blub (рыдать — to cry noisily, taking sudden, sharp breaths), to wail (стенать — to cry in a loud high voice), to whimper (всхлипывать, подвывать — to cry making low, weak noises; судя по найденным примерам, такие звуки издают животные, когда им больно или грустно), to weep (literary or formal) (тихо и долго плакать — to cry quietly for a long time).

Удивительно, но свой пример (выше) я взяла “из головы”, а потом заглянула в словарь, а так: As he listened to the music, his eyes filled with tears.
well — это не только “хорошо”, но и “колодец”, a well of smth — кладезь чего-то: My brother is a well of quotations from TV ads.
Но, кто бы сомневался, to well тоже существует, точнее to well up! Значит “подниматься (о воде) или выступать (о слезах)”: The tears welled up in her eyes.

a shoulder to cry on — мы плачем “в жилетку”, а англичаном нужно “плечо”, на котором можно поплакаться. Фраза встречается в песне A shoulder to cry on by Tommy Page и во многих других песнях.
